Just days before her passing, a brave young girl was escorted down the aisle by her father to marry her school sweetheart.

If you ask any parent in the world, they would likely say they would do anything for their child. Becoming a parent changes our lives in the most profound ways, as we realize the responsibility and love we carry for the new life we’ve brought into the world, and we commit to caring for them throughout our time here on Earth.

Yet, tragically, there are some things that even parents cannot prevent. Each year, too many children face hardships and illnesses that are entirely out of their control. Accidents and disease, unfortunately, are as much a part of life as moments of joy and celebration.

The day Alina and Aaron Edwards learned that their nine-year-old daughter, Emma, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, their entire world changed. Despite holding onto hope, they were heartbroken when doctors told them months later that nothing more could be done to save Emma.

With limited time remaining, Emma’s heartbroken parents vowed to fulfill their daughter’s wishes. Naturally, many kids would dream of meeting a celebrity, going to Disneyland, or watching their hero play on the field in such a situation.

However, Emma’s request was different. She wished to marry DJ, her ten-year-old boyfriend. Emma’s mother, Alina, explained, “Most kids want Disneyland, but Emma wanted to be a wife and have three children.”

Emma and DJ had tried to marry before at school when they were eight, even picking groomsmen and bridesmaids. Unfortunately, their teacher wouldn’t allow it. But this time, with the help of supporters and volunteers, their second attempt at marriage became a reality.

On June 29, Emma arrived at the venue in a wheelchair, beautifully dressed in purple, and her father proudly walked her down the aisle. After exchanging vows and rings, DJ kissed his bride, marking the highlight of their day.
