Dolly Parton and goddaughter Miley Cyrus knocked down the house on The Voice on Tuesday night (November 29) with their poignant version of Parton’s 1973 song “Jolene.” But remember when we witnessed the “Wrecking Ball” singer play the song for the first time in her garden in 2012? When Cyrus was 20, she and her band did a series of videos called “Backyard Sessions,” in which they sang songs by Bob Dylan, Melanie, James Shelton, and others. One of them was a cover of Parton’s famous song.
In the years since, Cyrus has made “Jolene” a regular part of her live concerts and TV appearances, but in celebration of her Voice rendition, we thought it may be interesting to revisit the twangy original, which has racked up 94 million views to date.
