Jelly Roll and Kelly Clarkson join forces to perform his hit track, “I Am Not Okay,” in a special segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show called “Kellyoke.”
Supporters initially caught a preview of the performance when a behind-the-scenes soundcheck video was distributed across the show’s social media channels.
The duo, aptly named “Kelly and Jelly,” embraced as they reunited on the show’s small stage and reflected on their initial encounter at a previous GRAMMYs event.
They returned to work, planning how to approach the duet collaboratively, determining the placement of harmonies and moments for Clarkson to showcase her impressive vocal prowess.
Jelly Roll seemed brimming with joy and enthusiasm as he listened to Clarkson reinterpret his song, matching her energy as she praised the impactful track. Co-written by the Antioch, TN native along with Ashley Gorley, Casey Brown, and Taylor Phillips, “I Am Not Okay” portrays an honest portrayal of someone acknowledging their mental health struggles while maintaining hope for a positive outcome. The song is featured on his latest album, Beautifully Broken.
“This song is amazing. I’m thrilled he’s letting me perform his song, ‘I Am Not Okay,’ and it’s fantastic,” Clarkson expressed before adding, “I’m a huge fan. I love authenticity and I love real messages. I. think that real s**t really matters.”
“I would’ve never believed you if you’d told me that I’d write a song so impactful that the amazing Kelly Clarkson would consider it worthy to cover,” he posted on X. “Thank you, Kelly—wow—I’m honored in a way I can’t even describe—I cried watching it.”
