The Heartwarming Moment Michael Bublé Sings a Duet with a Sixth-Grade Teacher
Not many people can claim they’ve met one of their idols. Some of us get lucky with a backstage pass, or maneuver through the crowd for a handshake and a photo; these moments are unforgettable for any fan. However, one fan went beyond what many only dream of: sharing the stage with Michael Bublé in a packed arena.
This is exactly what sixth-grade teacher Mrs. Diana Fairbanks did during Michael Bublé’s 2019 show at Oakland’s Oracle Arena. In a heartfelt moment, Fairbanks remains calm amid the crowd as Bublé agrees to her request for a duet. They then proceed to sing Disney’s “A Whole New World” together in a beautiful melodic duet.
Initially, Bublé appears to think that Fairbanks – who is holding a sign in the air – is simply trying to catch his attention and express her admiration (as most fans would certainly do if they were that close to Bublé).
He was then shocked to see the other side of the sign, which requested an on-stage duet with the iconic Canadian singer. Unbeknownst to the audience, they were about to witness an extraordinary moment.
The crowd erupted in applause as he accepted her offer, and Fairbanks showcased her angelic voice from the start. Despite his fame, Bublé showed his human side in this clip as he stumbled over his words during the duet. This did not stop him from offering perfect harmonic support to Fairbanks, who was able to match Bublé’s pitch by the end of the song. They even exchanged looks for reassurance as they figured out the right pitch together.
Michael Bublé is globally recognized as an American vocal icon. His extensive original discography is impressive on its own, but one element of Bublé’s magic is his talent for reviving forgotten songs from the past and putting his unique spin on them. One of the most popular covers he brought back to life is Nina Simone’s classic “Feeling Good,” which 15-year-old fan Sam Hollyman had the chance to perform with Bublé during his show at the Birmingham National Indoor Arena.
Fan interactions are some of the best and most unexpected moments we can experience at music shows. Collaborations with guest artists are always a wonderful surprise, but there’s something truly thrilling about a fan getting the opportunity to perform with one of their favorite artists.
One particularly mesmerizing moment occurred when Yayo Sanchez, wearing makeup that mirrored Kiss’ Gene Simmons, was invited on stage by Dave Grohl during a Foo Fighters concert to play guitar. Not only did young Sanchez flawlessly perform their classic hit “Monkey Wrench,” but after an electrifying performance, Grohl was left speechless and began bowing to the young guitarist. It would be hard to find a more glowing compliment anywhere else.
