Archie Bunker’s defense of the National Anthem is going viral again 50 years later.

Archie Bunker was undoubtedly a memorable TV character. As the star of “All in the Family” for years, he resonated with millions of Americans who related to his views on patriotism and being American.

The show portrayed Bunker as a hardworking American man who had served in the military, which is why he couldn’t stand by and allow someone to disrespect the Star-Spangled Banner or what it represented.

Although some of his remarks haven’t aged well in light of the recent “woke” movement in America, Bunker’s defense of the national anthem still resonates with millions of Americans who prioritize their pride in the country. In the clip, Bunker watches TV with his son-in-law, Meathead.

As the national anthem plays before a sports event, Meathead criticizes the song, claiming it glorifies war’s brutality. While modern critics argue the anthem is racist against people of color, Meathead’s issue was rooted in the fact that it was written during the War of 1812 between the fledgling U.S. and Great Britain.
As Meathead voices his disdain for the anthem, Archie Bunker quickly defends it. “That’s a terrible song,” Meathead tells his father-in-law. Bunker, stunned by the comment, immediately lets his son-in-law know how he feels.
